BLOOM TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A longtime Bloom Township firefighter has died after a battle with cancer.

Lt. Andy Nunley, who served with the department for more than 23 years, was diagnosed in January and died on March 25, stunning his fellow firefighters.

“Andy was an integral part of our fire department,” Chief Thomas Williams said. “There was not a person on the BTFD that was not impacted in a positive way by Andy Nunley. From his incredible mechanical and construction knowledge to his sense of humor and contagious laugh, we will all feel this loss for a long time.”

Nunley is survived by his wife, Gretchen, and three children: Hannah, Hayley and Hank. Funeral arrangements are pending.
