Retired Ill. firefighter dies after battle with colon cancer

Keith Peacy, 49, worked for North Chicago and other area departments and often went on medical mission trips to Haiti

CHICAGO — A retired North Chicago firefighter who had worked for multiple fire departments in Lake County died Monday after a battle with cancer, the Lake McHenry Scanner reported.

Keith Peacy, 49, fought a “long, courageous battle,” the North Chicago Fire Department posted on Facebook.

Peacy is survived by his wife and three daughters.

Peacy joined the North Chicago Fire Department in 2003 and retired with an Occupational Disease Disability in November.

Peacy was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in 2019, according to the North Chicago Firefighters IAFF Local 3271.

“He served the City of North Chicago with pride and integrity and was a dedicated family man who loved serving the community,” the North Chicago Fire Department said in their statement.

Peacy also went on medical mission trips to Haiti, where he worked with surgical teams and helped build homes.
