Tenn. firefighter struck, killed while directing traffic on July 4

Volunteer Firefighter Roger Estes, 77, was on duty with the South Claiborne County Fire Department when the crash happened

NEW TAZEWELL, Tenn. — Volunteer Firefighter Roger Estes, 77, was hit and killed by a pickup truck Monday while directing traffic at an Independence Day event, WVLT reported.

Estes was on duty with the South Claiborne County Fire Department at the time of the incident.

The crash happened at approximately 1 p.m. on Highway 33 South in New Tazwell.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
