SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Firefighters took a 5-year-old boy on a shopping spree to honor him for saving his grandmother from a fire and to replace his toys he lost that night.
ABC7.com reported that Nathaniel Stocks got to shop with the firefighters after receiving a gift card from the San Bernardino County Professional Firefighters Local 935 Union. He got to pick any toys he liked.
“He was pretty excited,” firefighter Jeff Allen said. “He was all smiles for sure.”
Nathaniel was hailed a hero after he helped his grandmother leave their house after it caught fire. The boy crawled beneath the smoke and up the hallway to her bedroom, and woke her up as flames were ripping through their house.
“No doubt I would have slept through it, because I’m a really heavy sleeper,” his grandmother, Kimberly Ratliff, said. “I’m really proud of him. He did everything exactly how he learned it.”
Two days before his house caught fire, Nathaniel and his kindergarten class were taught fire safety lessons at their local firehouse.
