DUNKIRK, Md. — A fire department is opening its doors for employees impacted by the federal government shutdown and offering a free dinner.
According to a press release, the Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department will be serving a free spaghetti dinner for furloughed government workers and contractors, as well as their families.
“We know it’s not much, but with our close proximity to Washington D.C., we want to give back to our community in the form of a dinner cooked by our firehouse chefs,” the department said in a tweet announcing the dinner.
The department added that they “truly care” about their community members.
“Our community members often do not realize that their contributions and support play a huge part behind the scenes, and contribute significantly towards the driving force behind many of the success stories that we can share,” the press release said.
The dinner will take place from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 31.
