NEW YORK — Lieutenant Governor Bob Duffy last night put out a call to firefighters from the mother of a young man with an inoperable brain tumor. Her son wants to be a firefighter, so she asked if he could get fire patches from across the state to give to her son.
So far, the response has been overwhelming. In July of 2009, Johnathan Davis was diagnosed with an aggressive, stage four brain tumor. The tumor was removed and Johnathan was cancer-free for almost five years until last August when doctors discovered another tumor in his brain.
Johnathan’s father Mike Davis says, “This time it’s inoperable.” His parents say 21-year-old Johnathan may never reach his goal of becoming a fourth generation firefighter. He’s been in the Palliative Care Unit at Strong Memorial Hospital for the past two weeks.
