GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — An ambulance attempting to respond to a car crash was blocked by protestors.
City of Grand Island Fire Department firefighters were responding to the scene of a car crash when citizens protesting the death of George Floyd got in the path of the ambulance, blocking it from moving, Nebraska TV reported.
The department posted a statement on Facebook, asking people to be aware of emergency vehicles and stay out of the way.
“Last night, a few people walked out and attempted to obstruct a responding ambulance (with lights and sirens) … during what was an otherwise peaceful exercise of their First Amendment right,” the post read. “We take pride in caring for all who care upon our service, we do not discriminate who is cared for or whose house/business is protected. We ask that if you further exercise your First Amendment right of free speech, please be safe and allow emergency vehicles to freely pass.”
The department said those at the scene of the crash were treated and will be OK.
