WHO: All Fire Department Personnel
WHAT: The St. Louis Fire Department is joining thousands of fire departments across the United States and Canada for the 2006 International Fire Fighter Safety Stand Down. During the Stand Down, the department will suspend all non-emergency activity and instead focus entirely on fire fighter safety. The department will continue to respond to all emergency calls as normal during this time.
The Stand Down presents an opportunity for reporters to ride along with the department on emergency calls and, in between calls, to learn about fire fighter safety and the many hazards facing fire fighters. During the Stand Down, members of the department will:
- conduct safety training and drills
- review our safety and apparatus-related standard operating procedures
- thoroughly check all apparatus and equipment
- Have an open conversation about fire fighter safety in the department.
