SAN ANTONIO — A fallen firefighter was honored by having a new training center named after him.

News 4 San Antonio reported the San Antonio Fire Department named their new, 2,400 square foot mock home training facility after Scott Deem, who was killed while battling a massive shopping center fire in 2017.

“Every time someone comes here they understand the commitment that we have and to never let Scott’s loss be in vain,” Chief Charles Hood said.

The facility is filled with smoke during training exercises in which firefighters are tasked with rescuing two dummies and an injured firefighter in zero visibility.

“The communication that they have with command is critical, the bench marks that they are progressing through, those things need to be mentioned and those are the types of factors that firefighter struggle with out in the field, so it is extremely realistic,” Hood said.
