Lt. Lidke was directing traffic as the apparatus returned to quarters when he collapsed

HIGHTSTOWN, N.J. — Fire Police Lt. David Lidke, 51, collapsed and died Monday night following two structure fires.

According to the Times of Trenton, Hightstown Engine Company No. 1 said in a statement that Lt. Lidke died in the line of duty, but could not be reached for further comment. A fire early that day resulted in the death of a Hightstown resident.

U.S. Fire Administration reports that Lt. Lidke was directing traffic as the apparatus was returning to quarters when he collapsed and suffered a medical emergency. USFA says the nature and cause of Lt. Lidke’s death has not been determined.
