Maine fire chief dies after call

62-year-old fire chief died at his home of an apparent heart attack after returning from a call

HOLLIS, Maine — George Davis, fire chief of the Hollis Fire and Rescue Department, died at his home Saturday after returning from an emergency call. The cause of death appears to be a heart attack.

Chief Davis joined the fire service at 15 as a junior member of the Cumberland (Maine) Fire Department. In 1983 he joined the Goodwin’s Mills Fire and Rescue Department, serving as deputy chief from 2002 to 2004. He was fire marshal for the Sanford Fire (Maine) Department and a Maine State fire instructor.

He was named fire chief in Hollis in 2005.
