KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A Knoxville Fire Department firefighter is recovering after having a heart attack while fighting a residential house fire on New Year’s Eve, officials said.
Capt. Mark Lacey is doing reasonably well, according to University of Tennessee Medical Center doctors.
According to a fire department news release, Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit doctors have Lacey on a ventilator and feel optimistic that he will suffer no long-term neurological damage.
Lacey was working a house fire Tuesday night at 5508 Dandyline Drive when he suffered a heart attack, spokesman Capt. D.J. Corcoran said.
The family would like to sincerely thank the community for their continued prayers and concerns, Corcoran said.
