On Aug. 10, city of Pittsburgh fire units were dispatched to a structure fire inside an apartment building located in the 1700 block of Lowrie Avenue in the Troy Hill section of the city. Upon arrival at the incident, crews found heavy black smoke pushing from the roof and third floor of a three-story brick structure housing several apartments and an ice cream shop on the first floor. Due to a roof collapse within minutes, a third alarm was requested to the scene. Firefighters set up a defensive attack with several master streams set up around 3 sides of the structure. The fire was placed under control several hours later, and crews stayed on scene to extinguish hot spots. The fire is still under investigation. One tenant suffered minor injuries.
