On Oct. 30, a fire erupted in a two-story, wood-frame structure on Walnut Street in Springfield, Ill. The Springfield (Ill.) Fire Department was first to respond to the seven-apartment building. Initial response included four engines, two trucks and a battalion chief. Early into the incident, the building was evacuated and an additional alarm was requested, brining in two additional engine companies, another battalion chief and additional personnel. Units were on scene for approximately four hours.
