New Orleans, LA. — This evening the New Orleans Fire Department responded to a three-alarm fire in Algiers. The first unit arrived on the scene to find a heavily involved two story apartment complex building.
The building which was located in the Devonwood Apartment Complex, 3801 Texas Drive received heavy fire, smoke, and water damage to the roof of the structure and the approximately 17 units within the building. The fire apparently started in one of the first floor units and spread to the second floor and roof. There was also a small fire in a unit of an adjacent building that was extinguished.
This fire is suspicious; there have been several fires in this complex since hurricane Katrina. There are no occupants in this area of the complex, the units have no electrical or gas service. The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
