PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. — Three Maryland firefighters were taken to the hospital following a fatal house fire on Monday morning, including one with confirmed injuries.
Prince George’s County firefighters began battling the blaze at a two-story home at around 7:30 a.m., working for hours to make the interior safe enough for search crews to enter, according to WTOP News. The body of a man was discovered during a search of the home.
One firefighter sustained injuries during the blaze and was transported to the hospital; two other firefighters were also taken to the hospital for evaluation.
Officials said the first floor of the house had already partially collapsed when crews arrived, and that excessive storage inside the house made it difficult for firefighters to navigate.
The fire department reported that the fire was extinguished at about 12 p.m., with crews remaining on the scene to monitor for hot spots.
