MARROWBONE, Ky. — A Kentucky firefighter who was cleaning up debris after a storm was critically injured after he was struck by the vehicle of another firefighter responding to a call.

Marrowbone Volunteer Firefighter Jimmy Belcher sustained broken bones and head trauma after the crash and was transported to the hospital where he is reportedly in critical condition, according to WYMT.

In his latest update on his Facebook page yesterday, Marrowbone Fire Chief Clinard Adkins said Belcher was on a ventilator but showing some responses and squeezing people’s hands. He thanked the community for their prayers and support for the firefighter, who he said is “same as a son to me.”

“Prayers: That is what this young kid needs. And the other guy’s a young kid too. And I’m sure he is traumatized over what’s went on,” Marrowbone Volunteer Fire Department President Robert Adkins told WYMT. “We just ask everybody to pray for them. Pray for both of them. Pray for their families and pray for our departments.”
