NORTH EAST, Md. — A Maryland assistant fire engineer who had formerly served as fire chief died from a cardiac arrest after returning home from the station.
North East Fire Company Assistant Engineer Otis L. Isaacs Jr., 73, was working on a department vehicle on the morning of Dec. 29 and died after returning home shortly before noon, the U.S. Fire Administration reported this week. Issacs had also worked on Dec. 28 repairing a fire engine and setting up for a department event while on standby for two responses.
Isaacs was a longtime active member of the North East Fire Company, previously serving as chief, president and chief engineer, according to CBS Baltimore. He joined the company in July 1964 and was inducted into the Harford-Cecil Hall of Fame in 2003.
