LODD: NC firefighter dies in crash en route to call

West Liberty Volunteer Fire Department firefighter Michael Goodnight was pronounced dead at the scene

ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. — A firefighter died Wednesday in a vehicle crash while on his way to a call.

WBTV reported that West Liberty Volunteer Fire Department firefighter Michael Goodnight was driving in a pickup truck to a crash scene when he collided with another vehicle.

Officials said the other vehicle was turning into a driveway when Goodnight attempted to pass it and crossed the double-yellow lines, crashing into the vehicle.

Goodnight was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Two women were injured in the crash and were airlifted to the hospital in unknown condition.
