End of Service: 02/20/2019

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. — A young firefighter died Wednesday after suffering a medical episode while on duty.

According to a Facebook post, Palmerdale Fire District firefighter Branden Pierce, 21, was working at Station 3 Tuesday when he suffered a medical episode.

Pierce was transported to the hospital, where he died the next day.

“Brenden, only 21, had chosen to follow in his father’s footsteps by becoming a firefighter and was currently working on obtaining his paramedic license,” the Facebook post said. “It seems only fitting that his firefighting career started at Palmerdale Fire District, where his father, Allen Pierce once held the position of fire chief.”

The post added that Pierce’s “organs will be donated so that other lives may be saved.”
