NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A paramedic has resigned after being charged with the murders of his wife and her father.

Matthew Konen resigned from his position at the Nashville Fire Department on June 8, just over a month after he was charged with the murders of his wife, Rachel Konen, and her father, 62-year-old David Rodgers, on May 4.

The victims were killed on Jan. 20, WKRN reported.

“When the Nashville Fire Department became aware of the incident in Clarksville involving Paramedic Matthew Konen, the NFD reassigned him to an alternate duty assignment where he was not working with the public nor responding to incidents during the ongoing investigation,” Joseph Pleasant, a spokesperson for the NFD, said.

During a hearing on Monday, Konen pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree murder.
