LITTLETON, Colo. — Two people were hospitalized Saturday morning, including one firefighter, after a fire engulfed a Littleton apartment building.

Around 1 a.m., firefighters responded to a fire in the 8400 block of South Reed Street, with reports indicating that multiple people were trapped and residents were jumping from their apartment units, South Metro Fire Rescue said in a Facebook post.

The fire had engulfed the building, while also spreading to nearby cars.

Nine people were evaluated for smoke inhalation or injuries and two were hospitalized, South Metro said. One of the individuals taken to the hospital was a firefighter suffering from a minor injury, officials said.

Fire officials also found a cat during their rescue operations and reunited it with its owners.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
