DALTON, Minn. — Dalton Fire Department’s assistant fire chief has died.

Jason Kirchner, who served with the Minnesota department for 18 years, Fox 9 reported. He was killed Sunday in an ATV crash.

“Jason was a family man. If you saw him with his kids, he absolutely adored them and loved them. He would bring him around here,” Dalton’s chief, Donald Rocholl, said. “He loved to show his kids off.”

Kirchner is survived by his longtime girlfriend and their two children - one 3 years old the other 6 months old.

A memorial event is planned later this week to honor the man, with firefighter from across the state joining together to line the streets of Dalton.

“There’s no better way to show how much family he had in the fire service than reaching out,” Rocholl said. “It’s unbelievable how much support we’ve had.”

A GoFundMe page was created to help the family with funeral costs and can be found here.
