SALEM, Mass. — Firefighters jumped into action to revive two prisoners who had overdosed in a sheriff’s van after the driver pulled into the station for help.
WCVB reported that the two prisoners were riding in the back of the sheriff’s van when they overdosed on opioids and became unconscious.
The driver of the van pulled into a Salem Fire Department station and banged on the door for help, and firefighters acted quickly, reviving them both with naloxone, according to Capt. Richard Thomas.
Officials said both prisoners were transported to the hospital, and it is unclear how they got the opioids.
“It’s definitely a pretty big problem right now in the city with the opioid addictions and stuff like that, so it’s definitely a concerning thing right now,” Capt. Thomas said.
