MORRISTOWN, N.J. — A former volunteer firefighter in Boonton was sentenced today to one year of probation for stealing $2,291 worth of firefighting equipment.

Ryan Curran, 30, who lives in Montville but formerly lived in Boonton, had pleaded guilty in Superior Court in Morristown on April 2 to a charge of theft.

Curran stole the equipment on Dec. 18, 2012 and sold it to an eBay dealer. He did not have to pay restitution because the fire department was able to recover it before it was sold again, according to Morris County Assistant Prosecutor Robert Weber.
