PITTSBURGH, Pa. — A Pittsburgh firefighter is accused of shooting at the front window of his neighbor’s home in Reserve while holding his 18-month-old son, public safety spokeswoman Emily Schaffer said.
Allegheny County police on Wednesday arrested George Heinlein, 39, and charged him with discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, endangering the welfare of children, criminal mischief and two counts of recklessly endangering another person.
Four to six bullets struck the home, but no one was injured, Schaffer said.
City officials placed Heinlein on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation by Allegheny County police and the city Office of Municipal Investigations, she said.
Heinlein was off-duty when the shooting occurred.
According to a criminal complaint:
Heinlein told police he fired several shots in the air and intentionally shot at his neighbor’s front window, though it’s unclear why.
After firing his 9 mm handgun, Heinlein knocked on the front door to “alert his neighbor that he had shot the house.”
Two people were inside when police say Heinlein fired at the home.
Heinlein remained in the Allegheny County Jail on Wednesday night, unable to post $50,000 bail. Court records do not list an attorney for him.
In March 2011, Heinlein pleaded guilty to two summary offenses of disorderly conduct, and a judge ordered him to pay $769 in fines and court costs.
