VALDOSTA, Ga. — Two juveniles have been charged with burglary after allegedly breaking into the Valdosta Fire Department pump house on South Oak Street.

At approximately 7:15 p.m. Saturday, the Valdosta Police Department responded to VFD Station 1 at 106 S. Oak St. in reference to a burglary at the pump house, said VPD Capt. Bobbi McGraw.

“Fire department personnel detained a suspect at the intersection of Oak Street and Central Avenue that had been identified by fire personnel as someone who had broken into the building,” said McGraw. “(They) indicated there were several persons appearing to be juveniles who had made entry into the building and they all ran when they were discovered inside the pump house.”

The juvenile who was detained was treated by EMS for cuts on his hands which appeared to have been caused by broken glass. VFD personnel located another juvenile nearby in the parking lot of First Baptist Church, and the juvenile reportedly admitted to being involved in the incident, said McGraw.

“There were multiple bicycles and bicycle parts stored in the pump house, and it appears the juveniles were after these items,” said McGraw.

The Department of Juvenile Justice was contacted, and the two juveniles were charged with burglary. They were released to their parents. Investigators are currently working to locate the other juveniles involved, reports stated.
