HARTFORD, Conn. — A 31-year-old man was shot in the abdomen Friday afternoon by an off-duty city firefighter on Hebron Street, police said.
Donald Brown, a 25-year veteran of the fire department, was taken to the police department Friday and was cooperating with major crimes detectives, Deputy Chief Brian Foley said.
The victim, who was not immediately identified, was taken to St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center where he is listed in serious but stable condition. Foley said the injury is not believed to be life-threatening.
According to police, Brown and the victim knew each other.
Hartford police said they have contacted the state’s attorney’s office. As of Friday night, no charges had been filed.
Police got a call from the alleged shooter, later identified as Brown, just before 4 p.m. Officers who responded to the scene at 131 Hebron St. found the victim in the driveway, police said.
Foley said that Brown has a permit to carry a pistol, and that police have both the pistol and the permit.
Officials from the city’s fire department did not immediately return phone calls regarding the incident.
