CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A 3-year-old girl died in a house fire yesterday morning in Chillicothe despite the rescue efforts of firefighters.

Firetrucks arrived at 655 Allen Ave. at 12:24 a.m. and were informed that a child was trapped in the burning house, said Chillicothe Police Officer Bud Lytle.

Firefighters entered the house and found the child, who later was pronounced dead, Lytle said.

The child’s identity was not being released yesterday, pending notification of relatives, officials said.

Three firefighters suffered minor injuries during the rescue effort, Lytle said.

The state fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire. Other details were not immediately available.
