OKLAHOMA CITY — Firefighters broke out a window with an ax to get to an unconscious man locked in a burning car.
Oklahoma City firefighters Leon Lewis and Todd Turozzi found the man, whose name was not released, about 6:30 a.m. Monday in a church parking lot off SW 89 and Winston Way, fire Maj. Chris Bell said.
The man had burn injuries to his hands and bruises on his head. He also suffered smoke inhalation, but firefighters said he was breathing when they pulled him out of the car.
Bell said the man was driving westbound on SW 89 when he apparently lost consciousness for a medical reason and drove over several mailbox posts and a curb. Fluids leaked from the car and the engine compartment caught fire as the car came to a stop, Bell said.
The victim was taken to Integris Southwest Medical Center. His condition was not available.
