NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A worker is in critical condition after falling 40-feet into a smokestack on the campus of Yale University.

New Haven fire officials say the 55-year-old man fell shortly before 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Yale’s Central Power Plant and was stuck for an hour. They say he was on a ladder inside the chimney when he fell.

Crews opened the side of the chimney to get him out.

The man, who has not been identified, is now listed in extremely critical condition at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

A spokeswoman for Yale says an active investigation is continuing into the incident. She did not give further details.
