TEANECK, N.J. — Multiple people were hospitalized early Monday morning after being trapped in a basement during a three-alarm house fire in Bergen County, authorities said.

The fire broke out in the 800 block of Palisades Avenue in Teaneck around 12:30 a.m., the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said. Local police and firefighters responded to the home, receiving aid from the Hackensack Fire Department.

Those trapped were discovered while firefighters fought the flames, the prosecutor’s office said. All of them were taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, but the extent of their injuries was unclear.

Police did not say how many people were rescued. It was unclear if most of the flames were contained in the basement.

Both the prosecutor’s office and local police are investigating the fire’s cause, and no additional information was available as of late Monday morning.
