ROANOKE, Va. — A mother and daughter are displaced after a fire destroyed their home near Glenvar on Saturday afternoon, according to officials.

About 4:30 p.m. Roanoke County Fire and Rescue crews arrived to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the front of a single story home in the 5400 block of West River Road, said Jennifer Conley Sexton, Roanoke County Fire & Rescue spokeswoman.

Fire crews took about 15 minutes to control the blaze, Conley Sexton said.

The mother and adult daughter were not home at the time of the fire, but their six cats were.

Firefighters rescued two cats by resuscitating them with pet oxygen masks, two cats were found in good condition and two cats haven’t been found, Conley Sexton said.

Several rooms of the house have heavy fire damage, and the entire house has smoke damage.

The mother and daughter, who were the only occupants of the home, are displaced, Conley Sexton said.
