CLEVELAND — A carjacker made off with an off-duty Cleveland firefighter’s personal SUV Monday evening on the city’s West Side, police say.
The gold 2012 Ford Escape had yet to be found as of about noon on Tuesday.
The carjacking happened about 8 p.m. Monday outside the Chase bank on Lorain Avenue near Rocky River Drive in Cleveland’s Kamm’s Corners neighborhood, according to a Cleveland police report.
The 29-year-old firefighter parked his SUV in a fire lane in front of the bank, then got out to use the ATM, the report says.
He told police he left the Escape running, the report says.
Within moments, someone jumped in the SUV and took off eastbound toward Rocky River Drive, the report says.
The firefighter said he never saw the carjacker and could offer no description including the gender, approximate age or race.
Cleveland Firefighters IAFF Local 93 tweeted about the incident late Monday, urging residents to contact Cleveland police if they spotted the SUV. The license plate number is GYT4016, according to the tweet.
