CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A Chesapeake volunteer firefighter who also is an emergency medical technician, Cub Scout leader and naval petty officer is getting a presidential honor.
President George W. Bush plans to present Jesse Alvarado with the President’s Volunteer Service Award on Saturday in Norfolk.
Alvarado was the Chesapeake Fire Department Auxiliary’s 2007 rookie of the year. He responded to more than 200 calls.
He also is an assistant Cub Scout master and athletic director for Pack 42.
Alvarado will be among 675 volunteers Bush has honored since March 2002.
While in Norfolk, Bush also plans to attend the commissioning of the USS George H.W. Bush, the Navy’s newest aircraft carrier named in honor of his father.
