BANGOR, Maine — Decaying vegetation was cited as the cause of an unpleasant aroma that has been lingering for weeks in the Bangor Mall area.
The Bangor Fire Department occasionally receives reports of a propane or methanelike odor from the Bangor Mall area, Assistant Fire Chief Darrell Cyr said Thursday.
“We’ll take a ride out there to make sure it’s not something else,” Cyr said, adding that the cause of the stench usually turns out to be the naturally occurring odor from the nearby marsh and swampland.
