CONIFER, Colo. — A 40-acre wildfire in the foothills southwest of Denver has forced the evacuations of more than 30 homes.
Authorities said Friday the fire near Conifer has not burned any structures and no injuries are reported, but firefighters are concerned about wind gusts forecast up to 50 mph. Conifer is about 25 miles from Denver.
Inter-Canyon Fire Rescue spokesman Dan Hatlestad says the blaze broke out Thursday and is burning in open, grassy areas and on steep, rocky slopes with heavy timber. The cause hasn’t been determined.
It is about 20 percent contained.
