HONOLULU- A brush fire continues to burn out of control along the Waianae Coast of Oahu.
The blaze that has burned some two-thousand acres erupted Sunday in Nanakuli Valley. An arcing electric transmission line is being blamed.
Heavy smoke from the fire forced the closure of Farrington Highway this morning. It’s the only public roadway into and out of the Waianae Coast.
The Army helped by opening Kolekole Pass to civilian traffic before the highway was reopened shortly before noon.
The smoke led education officials to close Nanakuli High and Intermediate School.
No evacuations were ordered. But fire officials say residents affected by the smoke are being advised to leave the area.
