LIVINGSTON COUNTY, Ky. — A firefighter working for the Kentucky Division of Forestry died Thursday after sustaining a serious head injury.

Firefighter and Forest Ranger Technician Donald R. Lam, 58, was clearing a fire break for containment when a burning snag uphill broke loose and fell off a bluff above him, striking him from behind.

As a result of the blow, Firefighter Lam was knocked unconscious and suffered a fractured hip, bruises and second degree burns on his calves.

Firefighter Lam, 58, was a 12-year veteran of the fire service.
