San Diego fires contained

The Associated Press

SAN DIEGO — Fire officials say a 110-acre blaze in east San Diego County near the historic mining town of Julian is expected to be fully contained Monday afternoon.

The blaze, reported Sunday at Highway 78 and Banner Grade, was 20 percent surrounded as of last night. About 300 firefighters battled the fire.

Some campsites in the area were shut down, but no residents had been ordered to leave their homes.

Another fire, reported yesterday afternoon just west of Julian, burned 60 acres but spread slowly. About 200 firefighters battled that blaze.

The cause of both fires is under investigation.
