The helicopter went down on a remote mountain top August 5 about 7:30 p.m. We would not know how bad it was until the next morning... As I reflect on the past year in the Charleston Fire Department, there have been many changes. Healing is still happening on a daily basis... I was driving to one of our stations when I saw a lady — who I later found out was the spouse of Firefighter Vazquez — crying by the side of the road...
