From coast to coast, fire departments and organizations are commemorating the 19th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The first responders and civilians lost on that day will never be forgotten. If you have a photo from a memorial or tribute you would like to share, please submit your photo to FireRescue1. Please include your name, agency information and brief background information on the photo.
This week’s Photo of the Week features a poignant tribute created by the Stanford (N.Y.) Fire Company to commemorate the lives lost in the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
The display features 2,978 flags for the 2,977 people and one Port Authority K9 who were killed, with 343 red flags forming the image of the twin towers, representing the 343 firefighters who were killed responding to the World Trade Center. Police flags representing each police officer who was killed in the attacks surround the image of the towers.
The tribute will be on display at Stanford Town Hall Hill until Sept. 19.
