Firefighters help rescue cat dropped in tree by hawk

STARK COUNTY, Ohio — Firefighters helped rescue a cat from a tree that they believe was dropped by a hawk.

FOX8 reported that Erie Valley Fire and Rescue firefighters worked to save Fluffy the cat, who was discovered at the top of a pine tree by her owner Ellen Albert.

“She wasn’t going to make it,” Albert said. “She was going to die up there and she was all alone, the trees are swaying.”

EVFR Chief Rick Annen quickly theorized upon arrival on the scene that Fluffy had been grabbed by a hawk and dropped into the tree after seeing hawks sitting on top of a nearby barn.

“It had a flea collar and a regular collar on. They’re both missing so we figured when it got to the top of the tree, the collars came off. That’s why the cat dropped into the tree and then the hawk couldn’t get back into it,” Annen said.

The firefighter crew called T. Rowley Lawns to help after realizing they couldn’t reach the cat, and a crane and bucket was used to bring Fluffy to safety.

“I’m just truly amazed that she made it that long and these guys are here to help,” Albert said.
