ARUNDEL, Maine — Kennel dogs threatened by fire all made it out safely thanks to the efforts of dozens of Maine firefighters.
State investigators say they cannot determine the cause of the fire that caused an Arundel kennel to go up in flames Tuesday night. WGME-TV reports the homeowner was frantically trying to free the animals when firefighters arrived.
Arundel Fire Captain Chris Aberle says about 80 firefighters pitched in to save the 50 or so dogs that were housed in the kennel. Officials say all dogs made it out alive, but a few rabbits died in the fire.
Owners declined to comment on Wednesday.
The town’s animal control officer said the kennel has passed its annual inspection for the past nine years, most recently in December.
