FORT PIERRE, S.D. — Fire crews worked to rescue 40 bison from a semi-trailer that overturned into a ditch.
Argus Leader reported that the semi-trailer was driving on the highway when it overturned, and the people managed to escape unharmed, according to Pierre Fire Department Chief Ian Paul.
Around 40 bison, however, were stuck in the trailer. Around a dozen bison had already escaped through a small hole, but crews from the Pierre and Fort Pierre Fire Departments cut another hole in the trailer to rescue the others.
One bison died in the crash.
