REDLANDS, Calif. — After months of fundraising, the Redlands Fire Department is ready to unveil its much-anticipated new ladder truck.
A christening ceremony is planned for 5 p.m. Jan. 25 at the downtown fire station.
“It is with great gratitude and appreciation that the Redlands Fire Department would like to commemorate placing our new ladder truck in service and recognize all those who have helped,” said Chief Jeff Frazier.
“Through the many contributions, we have ensured that our firefighters have the tools they need to safely and effectively serve our residents,” Frazier said.
The free event is open to the public, and refreshments will be provided by two companies who helped equip the truck, South Coast Fire and Pierce Manufacturing.
“The dealer and the manufacturer are graciously sponsoring the christening,” Frazier said. “We’re looking forward to them being there.”
Demonstrations will be held comparing the new ladder truck to the one it’s replacing, a 1975 ladder truck that Frazier hopes to auction off soon, with proceeds going to the city’s general fund.
In addition, the many donors who contributed to the ladder truck fund will be recognized at the ceremony.
“This is a reminder of how lucky we are to live and work in Redlands,” Frazier said. “The city’s philanthropic roots really came through.... We’re looking forward to recognizing the donors.”
The truck has already been used, most recently in a warehouse incident.
“We feel really, really blessed,” Frazier said.
