Fire truck crash kills 3 W. Va. teens

Firefighters were responding to a chimney fire call when the rig was hit by the passenger vehicle

HANCOCK COUNTY, W.Va. — A crash Saturday night between a responding volunteer fire truck and a passenger vehicle killed all three teenagers in the vehicle and injured three firefighters.

Two of the teens, all 16 years old, were pronounced dead at the scene; the third died at the hospital. The firefighters were treated and released from the hospital, according to WTOV.

Police told the television station that the passenger vehicle driver pulled into the oncoming-traffic lane to pass another vehicle. The driver unsuccessfully attempted to return to her lane before hitting the fire truck.

The station reports that New Manchester (W.Va.) Volunteer Fire Department rig was running lights an siren while en route to a possible chimney fire.
