Fire truck strikes car in Texas

The driver of the car saw the flashing emergency lights and hit the brakes

ABILENE, Texas — An Abilene Fire Department fire truck was involved in a minor accident about 9 a.m. Friday in the 3500 block of Buffalo Gap Road.

According to an Abilene Police Department accident report, a 2003 Mazda, driven by Asha Monger, was struck from behind by the fire truck.

The report stated the fire truck was traveling south on Buffalo Gap Road when the driver of the Mazda saw the flashing emergency lights and hit the brakes.

The car had four passengers. Monger was transported by ambulance to Hendrick Medical Center for treatment of a neck injury, AFD spokesman Greg Goettsch said.

The truck received only minor damage, Goettsch said.

Monger was ticketed for failure to yield, according to the accident report.
