WALPOLE, Mass. — Live wires fell onto a fire truck on Saturday in Walpole, Mass., with a firefighter still inside.
Three firefighters arrived at the scene of some downed wires during a storm, according to WHDH.
Two of them had gotten out of the truck to evaluate the scene when the live wires fell.
The wires charred the truck, blew out the back tires and started a small fire inside the truck.
The firefighter trapped inside was able to jump to safety just in time to avoid injury.
“It was very scary in a way, especially with a firefighter inside,” Deputy Fire Chief Michael Laracy said.
After calling utility company NStar, they waited an hour before the crew arrived.
“This incident happened at a time during the height of the storm when we were getting thousands of calls,” NStar said in a statement, “hundreds of them being to report emergency situations.”
A reserve fire truck was put into use as the apparatus involved in the incident was checked for damage and repaired.
