SINGAPORE — Changi Airport Group has acquired seven new vehicles to further enhance and improve its responses to emergency for the group’s Airport Emergency Services (AES) unit.
Of the seven vehicles five are called Global Strikers and their task is to fight fires at the airport. These vehicles have equipment installed that allows firefighters conduct pumping operations even when the vehicles are moving. The older vehicles had to come to a halt to activate their pumping work.
Among the newly purchased vehicles, one of them has a turret which can be elongated. This turret can get to the second level of an A380 aircraft’s fuselage.
Changi Airport Group’s Airport Emergency Service unit’s chief Cletus Packiam said that the vehicle was the only one in the country that could penetrate inside the fuselage of an aircraft to pump in water and helps in saving the lives of passengers stranded inside airplanes.
The other newly purchased vehicles are the Aerial Ladder Platform and the Mobile Command Vehicle.
The overall price of the vehicles is more than S$7 million and brings the total vehicles owned by the AES unit to 18.
